How to Get the Hunter's Food in Well Dweller
Find Hunter's Food in Well Dweller: unlock Slingshot inside the cabin, return to the falling cage, reach the upper table, and take the berries home.
On this page+
You need Slingshot, not Climb, to reach the Hunter's food. In the Hunter's Cabin, find the egg in a nest and finish its Slingshot tutorial. Return to the room with the falling cage, use Slingshot to get on top of the cage, then climb the upper platforms to the right until you reach the Hunter's table. Take the berries and return to Mother Bird in The Well.
This is the opening food objective, after the Groundskeeper fight. If a high platform looks like it needs the later Climb ability, check whether you have completed the cabin's Slingshot tutorial first. The route to the food turns back through rooms you have already crossed; it does not require leaving the cabin for The Bog.
Get Slingshot before returning to the cage
After entering the cabin, meet Looter and continue through the moving cages and bubble rooms. Follow the reachable route down through the floor until you find an egg in a nest. Collect it and complete the short Slingshot tutorial. You should return to the cabin with the new movement action available. If you have only met Looter but have not reached the nest, keep exploring the cabin's lower route before trying the high food platform again.
Slingshot launches Glimmer's matchstick and lets you use it as an extra step up. It solves a height problem that a normal jump cannot. Check the prompt in your own game for the input; the route depends on the action and the platform positions, not a particular controller button.
Use the cabin rooms as checkpoints
The route from Looter to the egg is not a straight climb to the food. The illustrated walkthrough shows a moving cage that carries Glimmer upward, then a floating bubble that crosses a spike section. In the following cage area, the route goes through an elevator and upper platforms before dropping through a floor to continue deeper into the cabin. Use these features to distinguish progress toward the egg from an optional side room.
At the cage area, a leftward bubble branch leads to a trinket detour. You can take it if you want Hunter's Locket, which helps Oil Vial healing, but it does not replace the egg tutorial. Return to the cage route afterward. A later room contains another trinket that is out of reach on this first pass; do not treat that pickup as the required food. The main route continues through the rooms beyond the nearby tent until you reach the nest.
Collecting the egg starts the Slingshot tutorial. Finish the tutorial rather than merely touching the pickup and turning around. The return to the cabin is the useful confirmation: you now have a new action for the height puzzle that stopped you before. If the action is absent from your controls after returning, review the in-game tutorial and current binding before repeating the route to the falling cage.
Retrace the falling-cage room to the food
- Go back to the room where a trap cage falls when you approach it. Let the cage drop.
- Use Slingshot to reach the top of that cage. Treat the cage as a platform rather than an obstacle to avoid.
- Jump to the cage and ledges above, then take the upper exit on the right.
- Follow that upper route to the Hunter's table and collect the berries from his meal.
The falling cage is the useful landmark if you have circled the cabin and lost the path. A route with an unreachable trinket or a high wall is not the food route. The published Part 1 walkthrough shows the nest, falling cage and upper table in that order; an independent opening-route account also places Slingshot before the berries.
Your checkpoint sequence is Looter → moving cage and bubbles → nest and Slingshot tutorial → earlier falling cage → upper right exit → Hunter's table. If you have already visited the nest, start reading this sequence from the falling cage rather than restarting at Looter. If you have not found the nest, follow the cabin's accessible lower route instead of repeatedly attempting the high table from below.
If you still cannot reach the table
Check the obstacle in front of you. No Slingshot action: return to the lower cabin route and finish the egg tutorial. Slingshot works but the next ledge is too high: return to the falling cage and climb from its top, not the floor beside it. You reached the table but the objective remains: inspect the food on the table and confirm the berries were collected before heading home. These checks follow the documented route; they are not a diagnosis of a save-file bug.
After taking the berries, head back to The Well and speak to Mother Bird. The food objective ends there. If you came here while planning the next movement unlock, Climb and Tent Travel come later, after The Swarm in The Bog.
For the return, you can retrace the cabin route. The illustrated walkthrough also describes a shorter lower exit that uses Slingshot to reach a platform. Both options lead away from the table; choose the one you can identify on your map rather than forcing an optional high ledge. On leaving the cabin, the Hunter's silhouette appears at its door. Continue toward The Well and enter Mother's nest to hand over the berries. That interaction, not simply collecting the food, completes this first objective.
The next Hunter sequence follows after you speak to Mother Bird and inspect the sound outside. If you are already in that chase, you have finished the food pickup problem. Prioritize moving through the escape route rather than searching the cabin again. The beginner guide can help with early movement and return-point habits without revealing the later kingdom.

Checked September 24, 2026 against Into Indie Games' illustrated launch walkthrough and a separate opening walkthrough. This page combines their route landmarks into a short recovery path for the food objective. We did not record an original playthrough or test every controller layout. The Steam community documents the Climb confusion that this answer addresses.
